The growth rate of Turkmenistan’s agro-industrial complex's production volumes, work and services grew at 7.8 percent last year, Trend reports citing the website of Turkmenistan's oil and gas complex of Nebit-Gaz.
Turkmenistan produced 1.48 million tons of wheat, 1.28 million tons of cotton, 86,000 tons of rice, and 2,131 tons of cocoons in 2021.
The Agriculture and Environmental Protection Ministry’s plan was overfulfilled by 8.1 percent, while the State Committee for Water Resources’ plan was exceeded by 5.2 percent and the Turkmen atlary (Turkmen horses) State Association’s plan by 2.4 percent.
Agriculture is one of Turkmenistan's most important economic sectors. Wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beets, fodder, vegetables, melons, fruit, and berry crops are the main types of agricultural crops grown in the country.
In Turkmenistan, special emphasis is placed on increasing production volume. As a result, the country has increased its production of vegetables, fruits, and berries in recent years, as well as expanded its area of perennial plants, vineyards, and greenhouses.
Currently, Turkmenistan is constructing 188 greenhouse complexes covering 1,792 hectares.
