Turkmenistan eyes to sow its eastern lands with spring vegetables, melons and gourds

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 3

More than 390 hectares of land are planned to be sown with spring vegetables, melons and gourds in the Farap district of eastern Turkmenistan, Trend reports citing Jeyhun News.

Some 80 hectares will be sown with potatoes, 50 hectares with tomatoes, three hectares with cucumbers, 100 hectares with onions, 10 hectares with cabbages and 150 hectares with melons, gourds.

Around 1,120 tons of potatoes and 2,500 tons of onions are planned to be harvested in the district.

Some 1,250 tons of tomatoes, 60 tons of cucumbers, 25 tons of cabbages, as well as 3,000 tons of melons and gourds are expected to be supplied for sale after harvesting in summer.

Turkmenistan will take measures to turn agriculture into a profitable sector of the economy.

Agriculture is one of the most important sectors of the Turkmen economy. Wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetables, melons and gourds, fruits and berries are the main types of agricultural crops that are grown in the country.
