BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 20. The Iranian Government Trading Corporation (GTC) has purchased a total of 115,000 tons of wheat and rapeseed form farmers under a guarantee in Khuzestan Province (south-western Iran) from the beginning of current wheat harvesting season in the country (March 24, 2022) to April 19, Director General of the GTC’s branch in Khuzestan Province Omid Jahan Nejadian said, Trend reports citing the corporation’s website.
The director general said that in total, 90,000 tons of wheat and 15,000 tons of rapeseed were purchased from the farmers in the province during the reporting period.
Jahan Nejadian added that 162 centers for the purchase of wheat and rapeseed have been established in the Khuzestan Province. About 1 million tons of wheat and 65,000 tons of rapeseed are expected to be purchased from farmers under a guarantee in the province this season.
Meanwhile, in the last season, 1.1 million tons of wheat and more than 100,000 tons of rapeseed were purchased from farmers under a guarantee in Khuzestan Province.
In general, 9 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.
The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74), while 1 kg of rapeseed – was at 150,000 rials (about $3.57 million) for the current Iranian year.
A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
