Iran sees increase in trade with Iraq

TEHRAN, Iran, May 7. Iran's trade with Iraq has increased 35 percent, said the Chairman of Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce Yahya Al-Isaq, Trend reports citing ILNA.

"Iran has exported $9 billion worth of goods to Iraq's private sector and imported $2 billion from Iraq in the last Iranian year (started March 21, 2021)," he said.

He pointed out that there is ongoing trade between the public and private sectors of Iran and Iraq. The private sector has received its export revenue from Iraq.

He went on to say that Iran is pursuing a $20 billion contract with Iraq and negotiating with contractors and officials.

According to the official, Iran continues to export gas and electricity to Iraq, while Baghdad is to settle the remaining $1.5 billion of its $5 billion debt to Iran.
