BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 21. Iranian Government Trading Corporation (GTC) began the new wheat harvesting season in the Razavi Khorasan Province (north-eastern Iran) on May 20, 2022, Director General of the GTC’s branch in Razavi Khorasan Province, Hamidreza Nouri said, Trend reports referring to the corporation’s website.

On May 20, the GTC purchased 15 tons of wheat from farmers under a guarantee in the province, Nouri said.

The director general also added that 59 centers have been established in the province to purchase wheat from farmers under a guarantee for the current season.

“A total of 270,000 tons of wheat are expected to be purchased from farmers in Razavi Khorasan Province under a guarantee this season,” he noted.

According to Nouri, wheat has been planted on 204,000 hectares of land in Razavi Khorasan Province.

The official emphasized that in total, the GTC has purchased 100,000 tons of wheat worth 5.07 trillion rials (about $120 million) from farmers in the province over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).

In general, 9 million tons of wheat are expected to be purchased in Iran in the current Iranian year (from March 20, 2022, through March 20, 2023). Of this, about 5.5 million tons are expected to be purchased by the GTC.

The price of 1 kg of wheat was set up at 115,000 rials (about $2.74) for the current Iranian year.

A number of products, including wheat, tea, rice, and other products are purchased from farmers by GTC under a guarantee in Iran.
