TEHRAN, Iran, August 3.The transit of goods and commodities via Iranian rail network has reached 1.9 million tons last Iranian year (ended on March 21), Amin Tarafo, the director general of the international corridors department of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development said, Trend reports citing Mehr.

Considering the existing rail and road capacities of the country, he noted that the country has projected to increase the transit of goods and commodities via Iran to 20 million tons (4 million tons via rail and 16 million tons via road).

Regarding the country's rail transport fleet capacity, he added that Iran's rail fleet suffers two main limitations.

“Iranian wagons cannot go within the CIS countries' rail networks because the region has authorized quality standards, so currently only international wagons are used for rail transit,” Tarafo said.
