BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 12. Iran’s imports through the customs of East Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran) increased by 13 percent in value and 7 percent in volume, during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Customs Inspector of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province Leili Orangi said, Trend reports.
“In total, 171,000 tons of goods worth $546 million were imported through the customs of East Azerbaijan Province in 5 months,” Orangi added.
The official also pointed out that the main imported goods through the province's customs were various vehicles and related spare parts (including, passenger cars, trucks, paving machines and machinery used in various fields), wood materials, tobacco, cocoa, chemical products, etc.
According to her, the country imported goods from 45 countries via East Azerbaijan Province’s customs in 5 months. The main destinations and their import values were: Türkiye ($264 million), the UAE ($86 million), China ($71 million), Germany ($46 million), South Korea ($15 million), Italy ($10 million), Russia ($17 million), Slovakia ($6 million), Japan ($5 million), and Azerbaijan ($4 million).
Overall, Iran imported 14.4 million tons of goods worth $24.2 billion within the first 5 months of the current Iranian year. This is an increase of 7.49 percent in value and 2.17 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
