Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province sees triple-digit growth in non-oil exports to Russia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 17. Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province located in north-east of the country saw a 266 percent rise in non-oil exports to Russia in the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2023), compared with the same period last year, Director General of Industry, Mine and Trade Organization of East Azerbaijan Mohammad Jafar Azmaei said, Trend reports.

The director general added that $16 million worth of non-oil products were exported from Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province to Russia in 5 months.

He also said that the main exported goods included pistachios, polyethylene, polystyrene, glass materials, raisins, tomato paste.

As for export of sweets and chocolate products from Iran's East Azerbaijan Province Azmaei noted that $34 million worth of sweets and chocolates were exported in 5 months. Candy and chocolate were exported to 49 countries, including Afghanistan, Pakistan and Azerbaijan.

Overall, Iran exported 55.9 million tons of non-oil products worth $19.3 billion during the first five months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through August 22, 2023). This is an increase of 26.5 percent in value and a decrease of 8.55 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.

Iran's non-oil exports exclude only crude oil, mazut, and white oil. Due to imposed sanctions, Iran cannot freely export the mentioned products. That’s why it attaches importance to the export of non-oil products.
