Iran-Tajikistan joint venture boosts tractor sales in Central Asia

BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 25. The joint venture between Iran and Tajikistan, the Tajiran Company, achieved a 20 percent increase in tractor sales in Tajikistan in the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), compared to the same period of the previous year, Executive Director of the company Samad Taghipour said, Trend reports.

Tajiran Company was founded in 2006 by Tajikistan's Homa Company and Iran's Tractor Manufacturing Company. The share of the Tajik company is 49 percent, and the share of the Iranian Tractor Manufacturing Company is 51 percent. The company can produce 5,000 tractors and agricultural machinery per year.

According to Taghipour, Tajiran Company sold 300 tractors worth $2 million in Tajikistan during 6 months.

The director added that the private sector in Tajikistan shows greater interest in the production of this company.

“In addition, the interest of the Central Asian countries in the company's production is increasing. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have announced their interest in using Iranian-made tractors. In this regard, discussions have already started and it is expected that there will be joint cooperation with these two countries in the near future,” he said.

Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company was established in 1968 with its headquarters in East Azerbaijan. Over the past 50 years, by holding 12 subordinate companies and the capacity to produce more than 30,000 units of tractors per year, the company has become the largest and biggest agricultural machinery producer in the entire Middle East.

There are 8 branches of Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company operating in Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province, 2 branches outside the province, and 2 branches outside Iran.

Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company (also known as ITMCO) has exported 2,500 tractors worth $45 million from March 21, 2022 through March 12, 2023. Also, the company plans to produce 36,000 tractors for this year (March 21, 2023 through March 19, 2024).
