BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 18. The volume of red meat produced in Iran decreased by about 4 percent in the 6th month of the last Iranian year (August 23 through September 22, 2023), compared with the same month last Iranian year, Trend reports.
In total, 39,559 tons of red meat were produced in Iran during the 6th month, whereas in the same month the previous year, the figure stood at 41,073 tons, as stated in the data of the Statistical Center of Iran (SCI).
Within the 6th month, 20,943 tons of beef and veal were produced within the country, showing a 5.65 percent decrease compared to 22,198 tons in the same month last year.
Also, 14,464 tons of lamb and mutton were produced in Iran for the sixth month. This is a decrease of 2 percent compared to 14,771 tons in the same time period last year.
Moreover, 3,174 tons of goat meat were produced countrywide for the reporting month, representing a 3.6 percent growth from 3,064 tons in the same month last year.
Meanwhile, Iran’s other red meat production (buffalo and camel) stood at 978 tons in the 6th month, which is a decrease of 5.96 percent compared to 1,040 tons in the same month the previous year.
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture of Jihad Iran, the country produces an average of 1.2 million tons of red meat per year.
Currently, the price of 1 kg of mutton is around 2.8–5.8 million rials (about $69–$138), and 1 kg of beef and veal meat is around 3.9–6.5 million rials (about $92.8–$155).
