BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 30. Iran imported around 15,000 tons of goods through Bilasuvar border terminal in the Ardabil Province, located in the northwest of the country, in the first seven months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through October 22, 2023), head of Bilasuvar border terminal Lotfollah Babaei said, Trend reports.
This shows a significant increase of 116.2 percent compared to the same period last year, when Iran imported only 6,936 tons of goods via the same terminal.
According to Babaei, the main import items were paper, fruit juice, barley, and other goods.
Bilasuvar border terminal is located on the border of Iran and Azerbaijan and facilitates trade between the two countries.
The increase in imports via Bilasuvar border terminal is in line with the overall growth of Iran’s imports in the first half of the current Iranian year.
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Iran imported 17.6 million tons of goods worth $30.4 billion during this period. This represents an increase of 11.6 percent in value and 6.89 percent in volume compared to the same period last year.
Iran’s main import partners in this period were the UAE, China, Türkiye, Germany, and India. The main imported items were corn feed, mobile phones, and soybean seeds.
