Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province expands cargo transport to other regions

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 3. Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province, located in the north-west of the country, has increased its cargo transport to other regions by 11.5 percent in the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2023), compared to the same period of the previous year, an official of Road and Transport Department of East Azerbaijan Province Mirza Fatemi said, Trend reports.

Fatemi said that the province exported more than 16.5 million tons of goods to other parts of the country in this period.

He added that the main products that were transported from the province were agricultural products, cement, fittings, petroleum products, bitumen and tractors.

The official also mentioned that there were 288 cargo companies and over 37,000 drivers working in the province. The province had 52,500 trucks, including pickup trucks, among its transport fleet.

In overall, Iran has 2,793 km of controlled-access highways, 45,170 km of highways, and freeways, and 14,984 km of railway lines. There are 978 locomotives, 29,305 freight wagons, and 2,153 passenger wagons operating on Iran’s railways.
