Iran unveils details of fisheries export from Khuzestan Province

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 17. Iran’s Khuzestan Province, located in the southwest of the country, exported 30,000 tons of fisheries products, worth $30 million, in the first 8 months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through November 21, 2023), said Morteza Souri, director general of the Khuzestan Province Fisheries Department, Trend reports.

Souri noted that the province’s fisheries products, which include various species of fish and shrimp, etc., were mainly exported to Iraq, Kuwait, Russia and China.

He also mentioned that the province exported 29,300 tons of fisheries products in the previous Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023).

The director general added that the province produced a total of 127,000 tons of fish and related products last year, of which 48,000 tons were caught and 79,000 tons were farmed.

Iran produces more than 1.25 million tons of fish per year on average, with about 700,000 tons caught and more than 550,000 tons farmed.

At present, 347 cooperatives are engaged in fishing in the north and south of the country. There are 136,000 fishermen operating in the north and south of Iran. About 9,500 of them are engaged in fishing in the Caspian Sea in the north of the country, and the remaining 126,500 people are engaged in fishing in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman in the south of the country.
