BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 29. Iranian Markazi Province’s imports rose by 50 percent in value and 81 percent in volume in the first 10 months of this Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), compared to the same period last year, Director General of Markazi Province Customs Office Rouhollah Gholami said, Trend reports.
The customs official stated the province imported $784 million worth of goods, weighing 273,000 tons, over the course of ten months.
He added that the main import items were aluminum ingots, raw materials for pharmaceuticals, and various kinds of manufacturing equipment.
Gholami also said that these imports came from 54 countries, with the UAE, China, Türkiye, Hong Kong, and Germany being the main sources.
The director general mentioned that the province’s customs revenues reached 7.47 trillion rials (about $178 million) in 10 months, which is a 48 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
The latest data from the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) shows that Iran’s overall imports stood at 28.7 million tons, worth $48.4 billion, in the first nine months of the current Iranian year, representing a 12.3 percent increase in value and a 7 percent increase in volume year-on-year.
In general, Iran mainly focuses on the import of essential products needed by the country and applies certain restrictions on the import of goods produced domestically.
