However, the volume of imports decreased by 6.45 percent, amounting to 29,000 tons, according to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).

The figures show a contrast with the same period last year, when Iran imported 31,000 tons of goods worth $21 million from Turkmenistan.

The main items imported to Iran were petroleum coke, cotton, fabric, and others.

During the 10th month alone (December 22, 2023 through January 20, 2024), Iran imported 3,500 tons of goods worth $4.3 million from Turkmenistan.

The IRICA's latest data shows that Iran’s overall imports stood at 32.7 million tons, worth $54.3 billion, in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year, representing an 11.6 percent increase in value and a 6 percent increase in volume year-on-year.

In general, Iran mainly focuses on the import of essential products needed by the country and applies certain restrictions on the import of goods produced domestically.
