BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 12. The volume of red meat produced in Iran dropped by 18.3 percent in the 10th month of the current Iranian year (December 22, 2023 through January 20, 2024), compared with the same month last Iranian year, Trend reports.
Data from Statistical Center of Iran (SCI) shows that 33,510 tons of red meat were produced in Iran during the 10th month.
In the corresponding period of the previous Iranian year, the figure stood at 41,026 tons.
Within the 10th month, 18,226 tons of beef and veal were produced within the country, showing a 12 percent decrease compared to 20,702 tons in the same month last year.
Also, 11,881 tons of lamb and mutton were produced in Iran for the 10th month. This is a decrease of 29 percent compared to 16,673 tons in the same time period last year.
Moreover, 2,266 tons of goat meat were produced countrywide for the reporting month, representing a 19-percent decline from 2,795 tons in the same month last year.
Meanwhile, Iran’s other red meat production (buffalo and camel) stood at 726 tons in the 10th month, which is an increase of 93 percent compared to 376 tons in the same month the previous year.
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Agriculture of Jihad Iran, the country produces an average of 1.2 million tons of red meat per year.
Currently, the price of 1 kg of mutton is around 3.1–21.6 million rials (about $73.8–$514), and 1 kg of beef and veal meat is around 4.2–9.7 million rials (about $100–$231).
