BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 26. State-owned carmakers in Iran manufactured around 1.23 million vehicles of various kinds (such as passenger cars, pick-up trucks, trucks, etc.) in the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (from March 21, 2023 to February 19, 2024), said Mehrdad Khosravi, an official from Iran’s Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade, Trend reports.
Khosravi stated that the state-owned companies’ passenger car production reached 1.04 million units in 11 months, which was a 6 percent increase from the same period last year (980,000 units).
He also reported that the state-owned companies made 152,000 pickup trucks during the same period, which was a 34 percent rise from the previous year.
The official further said that the state-owned companies manufactured 34,000 heavy tonnage trucks in the same period, which was a 10 percent improvement from the last year.
“In addition, private carmaker companies in Iran manufactured about 280,000 vehicles of various kinds in the same period, which was a 61 percent surge from the previous year (173,000 units),” he added.
Over the past years, Iran has focused on domestic production instead of importing passenger cars. For this reason, the country imposed certain restrictions on the import of passenger cars into the country. However, due to insufficient domestic production and low quality and safety standards, the restrictions on importing passenger cars into the country have been reduced to a certain extent this year.
