Azerbaijan can become transit country of Stavropol Territory on grain transportation

During 2 days the leadership of the Stavroopol Territory will hold negotiations with the Azerbaijani government on increase of grain supply to the country, Alexander Chernogorov, the governor of the Stavropol Territory, told Trend.

570,000 tons of grain was exported to Azerbaijan in 2005, while this figure would reach around 4m tons. From 6.9m tons 4m tons may be exported through the Baku port in the direction of Iran and Turkey that will allow Azerbaijan to become transit country on grain transportation, he stressed.

According to Chernogorov, as a result of 2005 Azerbaijan ranked 1st on the foreign goods turnover of the Stavropol Territory. The amount of the foreign trade between Azerbaijan and the Stavropol Territory exceeded $80m, or thrice more as compared 2005, he added.

Meanwhile, he mentioned necessity of solution of some problems, particularly, imperfection of transport sector.

We must take all measures to reduce tariffs and Russias joining the TRACECA project may assist it. It will promote expense reduction to 35%. The second problem is appearance of infringing goods at the Azerbaijani market.

Chernogorov proposed to the Azerbaijani government to put invest in the tourist sphere of the Stavropol Territory. We are ready to establish conditions for attraction of Azerbaijani investments, he said.

The governor mentioned readiness for development of tourist relations and assuring of cooperation of appropriate companies. Exhibition of resort business is planned to be held in Baku in May in this respect, he concluded.
