This year, the problem isnt expected with the oil transportation from Azerbaijan to Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi, Trend reports quoting the State Railway Department of Azerbaijan (SRD).

Earlier, the lack of enough capacity for delivering cargos to the port of Batumi, as well as absence of necessary infrastructure for receiving oil in winter period imposed several problems.

However, this year such problems will not be observed, told by SRD. It is justified through the upgrade of infrastructure of the ports, as well as coordination measures of Azerbaijani and Georgian services.

In January-June 2006, Batumi oil terminal has transported a total of 6.4 mln tones of oil cargos against 4.3 mln t. in the same period of 2005.

Batumi oil terminal is in a capacity of transporting up to 15 mln tones of oil cargos a year. The terminal serves tankers wit a capacity of up to 30-90 thousand tones in four berths. At the moment the capacity of the reserve park of terminal is about 530 thousand tone and this is more than enough capacity for the transportation of current and forecasted volumes.
