(autoinsidernews) - Whether Ford is going to put Jaguar up for sale or not, the British automaker is definitely running out of lives. But the next-generation S-Type could help turn the automaker around. At the launch of the 2007 XKR, Jaguar reportedly previewed the 2008 S-Type to dealers. The U.K.s AutoExpress published new renderings based on individuals who saw the preview, and has put together an artists illustration of how the car looks.

The 2008 S-Type dumps the retro look for a bolder more modern style. The grille is inspired the RD6 and R-Coupe concept, and is framed by single unit headlamps. Other highlights include a vertical vent behind the front wheels a la the XKR and a sleeker, coupe style shape, reports Trend.

The S-Type was originally expected to be based on the new XJs aluminium chassis, but Jaguar will go with an aluminum body over a conventional steel chassis to save on costs. The S-Type is expected to use the current cars engines, with a range-topping S-Type R powered by the XKRs 420-bhp supercharged V8. The S-Type will get a standard six-speed automatic across the entire model range.

If Jaguar can build an S-Type more like the XK, we can have hope that new S-type will help turn around the ailing cat, as it has always been one of our favorites.
