The new Customs Code of Azerbaijan meets international standards, the Head of the Customs Control Organization Department of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan (SCC), Shahin Bagirov stated, Trend reports.
According to Bagirov, the new document reflects the factors such as customs registration on the basis of minimum information, legal basis for transition to automated system, less dependence on paper processes and broader use of the electronic system.
The Department Head stated that the new Code, devised jointly by the SCC and international experts within the joint program created by the UNDP, will serve to strengthen customs participation, control conception on the borders and transition to the principles of the customs audit after the customs registration.
We await positive results from the new Code such as successful organization of risk management, electronic information exchange inside and outside of the country, acceleration of trade turnover and transfers to the state budget.
The new Customs Code is expected to come into force at the beginning 2007.
The fist Customs Code had been adopted in Azerbaijan in 1992.
