A delegation of the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan comprised of senior officials of the Committee and international consultants is on a working visit to Brussels. Trend has been informed at the UNDP Office in Azerbaijan that the delegation led by Asgar Abdullayev, the chairman of the Committee, will stay in Belgium on November 20-25, 2006 under the project on the Improvement of Customs System in Azerbaijan.
The initial version of the new Customs Code of Azerbaijan has been developed and is pending for discussion at the European Union relevant bodies and approval of necessary recommendations and proposals in this respect, UNDP advised.
Within the framework of the visit it is planed to hold meetings with the senior ranking officials of EU relevant bodies. Earlier the similar visits were paid to Sweden and Estonia.
The project is directed at the improvement of the customs system in Azerbaijan is financed at the expense of the European Commission and implemented by UNDP was launched in January 2006. The key objective of the project is to render assurance to the State Customs Committee in the improvement of legislative basis of the customs sector and its relevance to the world standards, in particular, the Customs Code of the European Union, the improvement and implementation of strategy on development of information technologies of the State Customs Committee.
