(autoinsidernews) - Audi today named CFO Rupert Stadler as the brand's new chief executive on an interim basis, effective at the start of next year. Stadler has been considered the favorite to replace CEO Martin Winterkorn, who is taking over as Volkswagen group CEO at the turn of the year, reports Trend.
Audi's supervisory board also appointed Winterkorn as new Audi chairman, replacing Bernd Pischetsrieder who will step down as CEO of the Volkswagen group at the year end.
Stadler will remain Audi's CFO. A company spokesman said Audi has not ruled out Stadler remaining CEO for the longer term.
