In 2006, the volume of carriages via the Azerbaijani railways is expected to be brought up to 30 mln. tons, a source in the State Railway Company told Trend. These figures might increase by 3 mln. tons in the next year.
Last year, the Azerbaijan Railways carried 26,2 mln. tons of loads. 73,7% out of them fell at oil and oil products, 19,4% - at construction materials, an the rest soda, metals, etc.
According to representatives of the State railway Company, measures to provide transportation of rapidly-increasing volumes of loads are being taken. Particularly, it is proposed to buy new locomotives and repair the existing locomotive depot of the Railway Company.
