The Azerbaijan Tariff Council is viewing proposals on increasing railway carriage tariffs and fees on telecommunication services, as source in the Azerbaijan Economic Development Ministry told Trend.

The State Railway Company of Azerbaijan (Azerbaijan Railways) has recently put forward a proposal on increasing tariffs due to the increase in the domestic electric power and diesel fuel in the domestic market of the country.

Due to the increase in the tariffs on diesel fuel and mazut in January, 2006, the State Railway Company put forward a proposal to increase the tariffs, however this issue did not find its positive decision in the Tariff Council of the Country.

After the next advance in prices, starting from January 8, 2007, this issue has become an urgent one to the Railway Company again.

The proposals put forward by the Azerbaijan Telecommunication and IT Ministry envisage increasing the tariffs on telephone calls for the population from 66 gapiks up to 1,1 AZN. Instead of the monthly subscription fee, the population will be presented with the right on 450 minutes free-of-charge calls. For each additional minute above the limit, the subscriber will have to pay 0,5 gapik. The proposals put forward by the Ministry also envisages reducing the tariffs for commercial organizations down to 1,1 AZN, as well as reducing tariffs on international and intercity telephone calls.

Some experts say that tariffs on air flight and carriages by air may be increased soon as well.
