WB Develops a Project on Reconstruction of Azerbaijani Railway

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend , corr S.Aliyev / The World Bank developed a project on reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Azerbaijan State Railway (ASR). Arif Asgarov, the Head of the ASR, informed that the project to be implemented by 2007-2011 is estimated to $630mln.

Within the framework of the project it is planned to reconstruct the locomotive and trains of the railway, improve the energy economy, reconstruct the railway economy and work over rehabilitation of infrastructure.

Moreover, it is planned to carry out a project on commissioning of am express passenger training via Baku-Boyuk-Kesik route (Georgian border) with the length of 502km. The project necessitates the reconstruction of roads, energy economy, signalization and communications. At the same time, the issue on purchase of express locomotives and trains. Transport bodies from Japan, Korea and France are interested in participation in the project.
