Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Aliyev / The feasibility study of the project on reconstruction of the Alat-Astara Motorway (southern direction), is scheduled to be completed in mid-2008. Afterwards, the Transport Ministry announced plans to advertise a tender and set up the necessray work.
Mak Yol, acting as the general contractor, launched the reconstructing of a 22km-section of the highway. One bridge, two overpasses and forty communication structures will be built under the project at the cost of $27.7mln.
The Alat-Astara Motorway has been conditionally divided into two sections. The reconstruction of the first section, which is 13km long, is financed by the World Bank ($206.1mln) and the Azerbaijan government ($94mln). The second 59km-section is financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in the amount of $200mln and the Azerbaijan Government in the amount of $34.8mln. The reconstruction of both sections is scheduled for 2007 to 2009.
