Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / The German Development Bank of KFW will send a tender agent to Baku on 2 August in order to attract a consultant which will assist to Azersu (Azerbaijani state water company) in a project's implementation on restoring the water supply and sewerage systems in the Azerbaijani cities of Ganja and Sheki, according to the head of KFW's Baku office, Natig Abdullayev.

Opening of the tender proposals will be held on 3 August. The selection involves Swiss companies, as the services of the consultant will be paid at the expense of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco).

Presumably, the agreement will be signed by the end of August, and the consultant will proceed with his activities in September.

The consultants are attracted for institutional improvement of Ganja and Sheki water systems, as well as for development of technical terms of the tender on the defining of contractors. According to Abdullayev, international experts will also asses the feasibility study, as it was designed three years ago, and they will make their suggestions.

The representative of the KFW believes that the arrangements on improvement of the water systems and construction work will be held simultaneously.

The project envisions the improvement of the two cities' water supply and sewer systems' quality and reliability. The budget of the project is €55 million. According to the agreement signed in October in Berne, KFW will allocate €37 million as credit, and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) will provide a €10 million grant for the realization of the project. The Government of Azerbaijan's share in the project amounts to €8 million.
