Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Khalilova / The US commenced implementation of technical assistance on unifying Azerbaijan's legislation in compliance with the WTO's demands, the Foreign Ministry reported. USAID allocated $3.7mln for the implementation of the project.
Additional staff will be provided for the resident-consultant within the technical assistance project at the Azerbaijani Ministry of Economic Development, which will render assistance to the State Commission to develop documents to join the WTO.
More than ten bills out of forty have already been developed, including the bills on Currency Regulations, on Patents, on Trademarks and Geographical Names, and on Legal Acts. The first regulation of the Cabinet of Ministers on intellectual property has already been passed.
The US rendered technical assistance on development of documents and consultations on joining to the WTO to Azerbaijan within three years through the Trade and Development Agency of the US.
The latest consultations were held within the framework of the grant agreement in the amount of $981,000 signed in 2005. A similar agreement was signed three years before.
