Azerbaijan to Determine Consultant for Construction of Second Private Electric Power Station

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The consultant for preparation of the tender specifications for the project on construction of the second private electric power station will be selected on 20 November at the meeting of the commission attended by the representatives of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Economic Development, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Energy and Industry, said the Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Mikail Jabarov. The station will be built in Azerbaijan's city of Ganja or Sumgayt.

The tender proposals were opened on 11 November and initial assessment has been held. Three foreign consortiums participated in the tender:

Societe Generale; PB Power; omni; LeBoeuf, Lamb, Green & MacRae,

Latham & Watkins; Taylor-DeJongh Inc.; Jacobs Consultancy,

BNP Paribas; Allen & Overy; MGB; Mott MacDonald.

The consultant's targets include preparing technical, financial and legal aspects of the project and all projects of agreements which will be discussed with the potential investors.

International Powers, Sumitomo, Honwer, AES also make an interest in the construction of the second private electric power station.

Preparation to the tender will last for 8-9 months.

Generally three private electric power stations will be constructed in Azerbaijan with a gross capacity of 2000 MWt. The first station with 700 MWt capacity will be constructed by the Korean KEPCO. The Company plans to allocate $1bln in the construction.
