Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend I.Khalilova / The World Bank's mission headed by Ani Daskupt will make a visit to Azerbaijan from 8 to 20 December to devise the project for ecological clearness of Apsheron peninsula and determine its components, a source said at WB Baku Office.

Already in summer, proposals were sent to the Bank to begin devising the project. The assessment of the measures for clean-up of the oil-polluted lands has not been carried out yet, but according to the initial information, it will total nearly $60-70mln.

Within this project, the Government of Azerbaijan will provide small amount of funds at the expense of the budget finances. In addition, the revenues from the sale of the oil cleaned from the land may also be directed towards covering future expenses on the project.

According to the initial assessments, the area of the oil-polluted lands varies between 10.000 and 30.000 h. Currently all ecologic standards are observed within the PSA and therefore, practically pollution does not take place at present time. These areas have polluted along with centuries and hundreds of dollars are required for clean-up, the WB experts say.
