Negotiations on Azerbaijani Gas Delivery to Georgia to Continue in Tbilisi

Azerbaijan, Baku, 13 March / Trend corr S.Aliyev, A.Ismayilova / The agreement to implement the negotiation on Azerbaijani gas delivery and prices in Georgia was signed during the visit to Azerbaijan of Lado Gurgenidze, the Georgian Prime Minister, Namik Aliyev, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Georgia, stated during his visit to Baku on 13 March. Representatives from the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will attend the meeting.

Presently, discussions on a new gas delivery agreement to Georgia are being held. The contract will be signed with SOCAR in 2008.

Azerbaijan can provide Georgia with 500mln cu m of gas per year, despite its demand of 1 or 1.5bln cu m per year. In 2008, the cost for gas will be increased. Georgia is prepared to purchase gas from Azerbaijan at a cost of $180 or $190 per 1,000 cu m. Currently, Georgia purchases part of its gas from Russia at a cost of $235 per 1,000 cu m.
