Azerbaijan, Baku, 24 March / Trend / The Nabucco gas pipeline which will pump natural gas from the Caspian to Europe may obtain Iranian and Russian gas in order to fill up the pipeline, said Saltuk Duzyol, the head of the Turkish Botas, which is one of the six partners of Nabucco, Bloomberg said.
"Botas does not oppose the transportation of the Russian gas via the pipeline. Iranian and Iraqi gas can help Nabucco to have a capacity of 31bln cu. meters when it will become operational by 2013," Duzyol said.
European Union has earlier stated that it will not use the Iranian gas in Nabucco gas pipeline. The pipeline is expected to transport gas from Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan to Europe in order to lessen the independence of the EU from Russia who meets a quarter of gas demands of Europe.
Hungary, one of the partners of Nabucco supports the intentions of the Russian gas monopoly Gazprom to build the South Stream pipeline.
"The efforts of the partners of Turkey on the project worth of 5bln euros to establish separate contacts with Russia can undermine Nabucco," Duzyol said.
"Though our partners say that these projects will not rival Nabucco, it is obvious that they will rival it once the South Stream will use Turkmen and Kazakh gas. Both projects can not work simultaneously when there is not enough gas," he said.
