Over 70 Hydro-electric Power Stations to be Constructed in Georgia – Minister

Georgia, Tbilisi, 18 April / Trend corr N. Kirtskhalia/ A total of 73 middle and small hydro-electric power stations will be constructed in Georgia and will together produce 1,100 MW of power. According to Georgian Energy Minister Aleksandr Khetaguri, in connection with this issue the Government approved of the project 'Renewable Power 2008'.

The Minister said that the applications to construct the hydro-electric power stations must be submitted to the Ministry and will be considered at the Government meetings. If construction is approved, any investor will receive permission within 30 days and will sign a memorandum.

"The main condition will be as follows: within three winter months the investors must sell the power to Georgia. At any other time the investors are permitted to sell the power to whomever they wish," Khetaguri said.
