New Infrastructure Required to Build New Gas Reservoirs in Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 July / corr Trend E.Ismayilov / The establishment of a new gas reservoir on the base of the Bahar gas field in the Azerbaijani section of the Caspian requires the construction of several gas pipelines for gas delivery to reservoir and repair of wells on the field, the Azerbaijani Government said. It is also necessary to build a new compressor station to pump gas to reservoir.

The new gas reservoir can be established on the basis of Bahar field with considerably developed reserves. SOCAR develops Bahar independently.

In 1980s a total of 16-17mln cu m of natural gas was produced from Bahar, which is a unique field covering the country's need in gas by 30-40%.

Gum adasi, oil and gas producing unit involved in the development of Bahar field, produces 687,000 cu m of natural gas from the field a day.

Currently two gas reservoirs function in Azerbaijan - Garadagh and Kalmaz. Last year more than 1bln cu.m of gas was pumped into the reservoirs. This volume of gas is used to cover the demands of subscribers in the country in the autumn-winter period of 2007-2008. Last period (2006-2007), more than 1,024bln cu.m of gas was pumped into the gas reservoir.

The gas production in Azerbaijan is carried out by the SOCAR independently. Large part of SOCAR-produced gas is directed towards covering internal demand in Azerbaijan, and nearly 1.5mln cu.m of gas is exported to Georgia per day.
