SOCAR Employees Operating in Georgian Terminal Return Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 August / Trend corr. E.Ismayilov / All the employees of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), evacuated to Turkey from the Georgian Black Sea oil terminal Kulevi, which belongs to SOCAR, returned Azerbaijan, Khazar Ibrahim, a spokesperson from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, said on 11 August.

Referring to SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev, 42 employees from the company and five employees from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation were evacuated from Kulevi terminal.

"We operated in Kulevi till the end; however, it was made a decision to evacuate our employees from Kulevi after strikes on Senaki and Poty. We could leave our employees in danger," SOCAR President said.

Kulevi terminal will be able to accept up to 168 cisterns simultaneously. The tank battery's volume totals 380,000 cu m. The port can accept tankers with the deadweight up to 100,000 tons. The total trans-shipment capacity of the terminal is 10mln tons oil per year, including 2mln tons oil, 3mln tons diesel and 4mln tons black oil. Its capacity is expected to be increased to 15-20mln tons within 2 years. The total volume of reserve park is 380,000 cu m.
