Azerbaijan, Georgia Negotiating Gas Supply Enhancement, Gas Prices: Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku, 10 September / Trend corr. A.Badalova/ Azerbaijan and Georgia are negotiating enhancement of Azerbaijani gas supply to Georgia, Georgian Energy Minister Alexander Khetaguri said in Baku on 9 September.

According to Khetaguri, Azerbaijan presently supplies 1.5mln cu m of gas to Georgia and the volume is expected to increase in winter, but Minister did not reveal the exact figure. The price of the gas is being negotiated.   

Georgia and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) signed a gas supply contract. SOCAR will supply over 600mln cu m of gas, produced from its own fields, to Georgia in 2008.

In 2007, Azerbaijan was supplying 1.2-1.3mln cu m per day of gas to Georgia at the price of $120 per 1,000 cu m. The price was expected to rise in 2009, but current prices are not divulged.
