Azerbaijan, Baku, 18 November / corr Trend E.Ismayilov / "An idea of establishment of oil refinery plant (OPP) in Ukraine is currently studied by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR)," Boris Klimchuk, Ukrainian ambassador to Azerbaijan told at a news conference.

"Several variants are being considered at present. "Variants, connected with the project of the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline, as well as those not connected to it, are among them Klimchuk said.

One of variants is construction of oil refinery plant by SOCAR on the Black Sea shore of.

'The position has large technological advantage in organization of hydro-cracking, because large volumes of water will be required," the ambassador said.

Ukraine's largest oil producing venture Ukrnafta held negotiations with SOCAR on establishment of joint venture (JV) on refinery of Azerbaijani high-gravity and heavy oil. Ukrainian Galichina ORP and Naftokhimik Prikarpatya can take part in JV. JV plans to produce petrol on Euro-3 standards.

Presently, Azerbaijan extracts about 600,000 barrels of high-gravity in Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) block of fields as compared to over 900,000 barrels this year. Temporary cut in production of Azeri Light branded oil is a result of suspension of a platform in ACG.

SOCAR extracts about 9mln tons of oil per annum from onshore and offshore fields at own funds without participation of foreign partners.

Urknafta covers 75% of oil and gas condensate of the total volume of production in Ukraine. The company possesses a network of 316 petrol stations.
