Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Dec. 22/ corr. Trend E. Hasanov/ The delegation of Iran's Ministry of Oil arrives in Ashgabat to coordinate cost of Turkmen gas delivery to Iran in 2009, the source reported.
Over the last years, the north part of Iran which is far from gas fields in Iran was provided with natural gas through inter-state gas pipeline put into operation in 1995 from Korpej field (Turkmenistan) to Kurt-Kui town (Iran).
Iran traditionally makes requests to Ashgabat to purchase to 25mln cu.m of natural gas per day. Early 2008 because of non-coordination in price for delivered gas, Ashgabat suspended export referring to "technical problems". This action caused "effect of domino" because Iran stopped supply to Turkey, and in its turn, Ankara reduced export to Europe.
Teheran offers Ashgabat its territory as transit to transport Turkmen gas to Europe, considering this way as more competitive than trans-Caspian because of cheapness and shorter way to market.
