Azerbaijan, Baku, Jan. 5 / Trend /
From January to November 2008, Azerenerji JSC received 4.4 billion cu m of gas as fuel compared to roughly 2.9 billion cu m for the same period in 2007, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (Socar) reported. In November 2008, Azerenerji received 479.92 million cu m of natural gas compared to roughly 443.03 million cu m for the same period in 2007. In April 2007, Azerbaijan's gas operation mutual account system was changed. Today, Socar sells gas directly to Azerenerji, whereas previously Azerigaz JSC was in charge of the operation.
In the past, Socar sold gas to Azerigaz at 42 manat per 1,000 cu m. Azerigaz sold the gas in turn to Azerenerji to produce electric power.
Azerenerji failed to pay Azerigaz for the supplied gas in a timely manner and Azerigaz became indebted to Socar. Today, Azerigaz only transports gas to power stations.
