Georgia, Tbilisi, Jan. 9 / Trend , N.Kirtskhalia/
Four sections of the pipeline transporting Russian gas to Armenia are damaged.
Repairs will be made within 5 days. Gas supplies will be temporarily
terminated. The damage was caused by an increase in gas pressure in the
pipeline due to the seasonal increase in fuel consumption in Armenia.
"Due to the damage, the pipeline has been temporarily closed to avoid
complications, and to eliminate the problem as quickly as possible," Georgian
Energy Minister Aleksandr Khetaguri told journalists.
The pipeline transits 10 million cubic meters of Russian gas to Armenia via
Georgia.
Armenia has a large gas
reservoir and will not face supply problems as a result.
Other damaged areas of the pipeline are also being repaired.
The pipeline will be fully overhauled next autumn.
The Millennium Challenges Fund has allocated finances for this purpose, Khetaguri said.
