Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 19 / Trend /

The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) exported over 167,000 cubic meters of gas to Georgia in January 2009, SOCAR said.

Gas deliveries to Georgia began in April 2008.

Roughly 788.93 million cubic meters of gas were exported to Georgia in 2008.

Almost 5 million cubic meters of gas are delivered to Georgia each day.

SOCAR has its own gas produced from fields developed by the company.

Earlier, Azerigaz finished restoring a gas compressor station in the Agdash region to increase Azerbaijani gas deliveries to Georgia. Fuel is delivered to Georgia via the Gazimahammad-Georgian pipeline.

The daily 5 million cubic meters are transported under a contract signed by Georgia and SOCAR.

The maximum transportation pressure is planned to increase from the current 10 to 20 air.

In mid-November 2008, SOCAR signed a 5-year memorandum with the Georgian Energy Ministry to provide gas deliveries to the country. Under the agreement, SOCAR will launch subsidiaries to supply gas to consumer groups pinpointed by the government. SOCAR subsidiaries will also service consumer groups failing to receive gas in Georgia. Georgia will also sell Russian and Azerbaijani gas transited through the South Caucasus Pipeline and commercial gas from the Shah Deniz field to SOCAR.
