Bank reduces world oil demand forecasts for 2009

JP Morgan said the world oil demand will decrease by 1.6 million barrels and hit 84.3 million barrels per day in 2009, compared to 85.9 million barrels per day in 2008.

Earlier, the bank estimated one million barrels per day.

The world oil demand will continue dropping in the first quarter of 2009 given the weak demand in the fourth quarter of 2008. The world economic growth will decrease 1.9 percent in 2009, JP Morgan said.

A decreased demand for oil will be observed in the second quarter of the year at 83.5 million barrels per day. In the fourth quarter the demand will increase to 85.2 million barrels per day.

A total of 46.2 million barrels of oil per day will account for Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries and 38.1 million barrels for non-OECD countries.

The total world oil deliveries in 2009 will fall by 2 million barrels and hit 84.2 million barrels per day.

OPEC oil deliveries will hit 29.1 million barrels per day, which is 2 million less than in 2008. Non-OPEC countries will deliver 48.1 million barrels per day in 2009 compared to 48 million barrels per day in 2008.
