On April 2-4, Ashgabat will host a business forum with the participation of major German companies, including RWE and Siemens, an official Turkmen source said.

Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhammedov's official visit to Germany last autumn gave an impetus to Germany's business activity. Berdimuhammedov visited the Siemens-Forum in Munich to meet representatives of the German business elite.

RWE is one of the world's leading electricity-producing and gas-selling companies. It is listed among 5 major European energy supply structures. The company participates in a consortium to realize the Nabucco gas pipeline project aimed at pumping gas from the Caspian region to Europe.

Following talks with the Turkmen president in January, 2009, RWE AG Chairman Jurgen Grossmann told the local media that they had discussed cooperation in the electricity and construction sectors.

Siemens has operated on the Turkmen market for a long time.

The company is developing a comprehensive program for Turkmenistan as part of a long-term agreement. The projects concern energy, transport, communications and medicine.

Berdimuhammedov said at a meeting with Siemens General Director Peter Loescher in late February that he gives priority to Siemens, an "old and reliable partner," in many areas.
