Energy system capacity to increase 20 percent in Azerbaijan by late 2009

Azerenergy JSC (the biggest producer of electric power) plans to increase capacity of Azerbaijani energy from 5,000 megawatt to 6,000 megawatt by late 2009, head of JSC Etibar Piriverdiyev said on April 17.

Capacity of the country's energy system is planned to increase owing to putting into operation Sumgayit and Quba power station, as well as Janub station in the west of the country.

JSC operates to create transmission lines, especially construction of additional 350 kilometer high voltage transmission lines, Piriverdiyev said. "Operation on Geramboy-Imishli transmission lines construction have launched," Piriverdiyev said.

Installation of meters of smart type (on the basis of prepayment cards) is under completion in Ganja to increase collection of funds for used power energy.

This process in under completion in Mingechevir.

Presently, new meters will be installed in Shirvan, Sabirabad, Hajigabul, Yevlakh and Shamkir.

"Installation of these meters gives positive results because of complete collection of fees," Piriverdiyev said.
