The Azneft joint venture, which is owned by the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) is implementing complex arrangements to improve the economic state in Azerbaijan in 2006-2010. The company is implementing work to purify of reservoir water, SOCAR Vice President on Ecology Issues Mukhtar Babayev said.
Azneft is implementing a wide range of works, in particular, on utilization of reservoir water, transition to a closed mode of transportation, cleaning of reservoir water and further injection into the formation, as well as works by stopping wells with a high degree of irrigation and insulation work, said Babayev.
SOCAR's environmental programs include not only cleaning and reclamation of oil polluted lands. These programs include a wide range of issues, particularly addressing recycling reservoir water released as the result of development of oil and gas fields.
In order not to merge these waters, we are recycling and re-injection into reservoirs. Much of this work has been done, and reservoirs water recycled and injected back into bed," said earlier SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev.
There are 57 oil and gas fields in Azerbaijan, out of which 18 offshore and others onshore fields.
