Azerbaijan, Baku, June 1 / Trend , A.Badalova /
The United States hopes that Iran will soon change its position so that the country's gas could be used in projects to diversify sources of energy supply, including Nabucco gas pipeline, said the U.S. Special Envoy for Eurasian Energy Richard Morningstar, who has been on visit to Baku since May 30.

"Today it is not time to use the Iranian gas in the projects due to country's violation of its international obligations and presenting a threat to international peace and stability," said Morningstar, whose visit to Baku will last by June 3.

He said that such projects as Nabucco and Turkey-Greece-Italy (TGI) gas pipeline are very important from a strategic point of view and in terms of diversification.

"They will assist in establishing ways of future development of not only Azerbaijan, but also Turkmenistan and Iraq," Morningstar said.

In addition, Morningstar said that these projects will not solve all energy security problems in Europe.

With regards to the use of the Iraqi gas in the projects, Morningstar said that the United States considers such a possibility, but "this will take time."

"There are political difficulties and the need for infrastructure in this regard. But it [using the Iraqi gas] is that on which we will definitely work," said Morningstar.
