SOCAR divulges Azerbaijan's oil production forecast for 2009

The oil production will reach 45.2 million tons in Azerbaijan in 2009. Out of which 8.5 million tons account for the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), President of the company Rovnag Abdullayev said in an interview with official press.

The oil production increased 2.9 times to 44.5 million tons in 2008. Out of which 8.6 million tons of oil was produced by SOCAR.

In January-April 2009, SOCAR produced 2.8 million tons of oil, out of which 836,000 tons were exported via the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline and 1.9 million ton delivered to oil refining plants.

As for early May, a total of 11.16 million tons of oil was shipped via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. A total of 81.5 million tons of oil have been shipped via the pipeline, out of which 79.3 million delivered to world outputs.

Abdullayev said President Ilham Aliyev gave instructions to increase oil production on the Oil Rocks by 1.5 times to 1.2 million ton per year. In 2009, 21 wells will be drilled on the field to increase the production to 1.02 million ton.
