Azerbaijan, Baku, June 1 / trend Capital E. Ismayilov /

SOCAR (the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) plans to launch three-dimensional seismic research (3D seismic) on prospective gas-condensate structure Bahar-2 in Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea in July, SOCAR's source close to operations said on June 1.

"Crafts conducting three-dimensional research are being repaired. Seismic operations will be launched as soon as repair completes. Research is likely to begin in July," source said.

Other seismic measurements are not planned to be held in 2009, source said.

First, it is necessary to research structure, analysis of data and interpretation of results to operate in this structure. It will be possible to speak about expected volumes after these operations.

Operations on structure research, analysis and interpretation of data is planned to complete by late 2009, SOCAR's other source said.

SOCAR studies prospective offshore structures, especially Bahar-2 to increase gas production in the country.

Bahar-1 field is unique field. Its reserves were greatly developed. Roughly 16-17 million cubic meters of natural gas was extracted in fields in 1980 of the last century. This index provided 30-40 percent of the country's demand for gas. SOCAR independently deals with development of Bahar field.

SOCAR considers an opportunity of new underground gas-holder establishment in this field.

SOCAR deals with gas production in Azerbaijan. SOCAR produces fuel in fields owing to own funds. Most part of SOCAR's extracted gas is directed to meet demand of Azerbaijani domestic market. Part of gas is exported to Georgia.

Gas is also extracted in Shah Deniz field by foreign partners with participation of SOCAR under technical operation of BP. Gas is supplied to the Azerbaijani market, as well as exported to Georgia and Turkey via South-Caucasus gas pipeline. Azerbaijan also gets casing-head gas extracted by Azerbaijani international operation company in the block of fields Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli.
