State-run Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), the only firm allowed to explore and produce hydrocarbons in Mexico, reported a record daily production of natural gas in northern Mexico's Burgos region in May, the company said Wednesdayç according to Xinhua.
The company's daily production of 1.53 billion cubic feet last month was about 10 percent more than the average daily production in May last year and accounted for around 22 percent of the nation's total natural gas production, Pemex said in a statement.
Pemex plans to increase investment in Burgos to around 30 billion pesos (about 2.25 billion U.S. dollars) in 2009.
The company invested 153 billion pesos (11.47 billion dollars) in the area between 1997 and 2008.
Pemex has produced gas in the region without serious accidents for 1,691 days, according to the statement.
